What is The Cloud and How Can It Help My Business?

“I’m working in the Cloud.”

“We’ll just send it to the Cloud.”

“How much Cloud space do you have?”

“Don’t worry, there’s a copy in the Cloud.”

Seriously?! You Can Send Files Up to The Clouds?!

Without trying to sound condescending – no, you can’t. Well, not yet, anyway. Perhaps one day, we’ll figure out a cool way to get a floating data center suspended in the clouds – accessible whenever we want them. Actually, we can access Cloud files whenever we want. They’re just not all cool and floaty yet.

So, What IS the Cloud, Anyway??

What is the Cloud? To put it simply, the “Cloud” is just an offsite server where you send and access files. It’s also known as “Internet Computing”,” which is a tad more descriptive – but not nearly as cool-sounding. When you send your data “to the Cloud,” you’re effectively protecting it against data loss by keeping it offsite in a facility which very likely makes multiple redundancies of your data just in case something were to go wrong with the primary server.

Whenever You Want, Wherever You Want

One of the coolest things about keeping your data “in the Cloud” is that you can literally access your data anywhere from any connected device. So if you’re on the other side of the building, across town, or even in a different state – if you can find an Internet connection, you can log into your Cloud server and work just like you were at your desk.
